Jesus had completely humbled himself, and Peter could not take it. I understand Peter’s reaction. Years ago, I hosted Dr. Jack Taylor at the church I was pastoring. One evening, “Papa Jack” and Friede washed mine and Annette’s feet in front of our congregation.
It was a beautiful act of humility and impartation. Years later, Pastor Max Lucado would kneel on a concrete floor before Annette and me, lay his hands on our feet, and commission us to lead Bridge Church Fredericksburg in an astonishing act of humility and grace. I understand Peter’s reaction.
Once you realize the power, reverence, and beauty of these acts of humility, like Peter, you want to say, “Not just my feet, but my hands and head as well!” You are inspired to go all in. How can you symbolically wash the dirty feet of those you encounter as you engage today? - Pastor Jimmy
