Brother Lawrence, born in 1614 in Lorraine, France, was a monk in a Carmelite monastery. He came to understand that the ultimate end for mankind was to love and be loved by God by constantly turning his mind back to God. He called it, “The Practice of the Presence of God.”
Centuries later, Dallas Willard expressed it this way: “The first and most basic thing we can and must do is to keep God before our minds. Our role in practicing the presence of God is to consistently direct our minds toward Him.” In other words, constantly directing our affection to God.
